The Power of Truth
The Power of Truth
Have
you ever heard about the term “Satyagraha” of Mahatma Gandhi who was the
preeminent leader of the Indian independence movement? “Satyagraha” means “The power of truth”. In
this writing, I will show you that this ideology not only has an extremely
important value with our life today, but it also is worthy taking into one of
the great ideology of the twenty-first century.
In
the book “The Power of Truth” of William George Jordan, he says that: “Truth is
the rock foundation of every great character. It is loyalty to the right as we
see it; it is courageous living of our lives in harmony with our ideals; it is
always—power.” Yes, it is not only power, but it also the compass of the soul,
the guardian of conscience and the sun of morality. It guides us how to get a
right choice and live better in this life.
However,
we have to admit that today we are living in a world which we don’t know where
truth is. Sometimes, although we are clearly aware of what we tell or do is
wrong, we still do it. Moreover, we are willing to ignore the truth to lie
because of selfish purpose. We state many reasons to justify such as that is a
way to show cleverness and intelligence in our life, to stand and exist in this
society, to get a better life or to get respect from others. Even, some people say
that: “What gives them a lot of money, a happy life is truth.”
Nevertheless,
the truth is always in our heart, our mind and our conscience. We can lie to
get gain, to hide wrong and sinful behavior, to avoid the fall out and
consequences of such wrongdoing or to escape reality, but nobody can hide the
truth forever. We can lie all the people some of the time, and some of the
people all the time, but we cannot lie all the people all the time, because the
voice of truth (its power) still resounded in our ears to remind us to come
back to our honest nature. So, the power of truth is what it makes us more
peaceful to face many difficulties and lies in our life.
I
believe that many times in this life, we witnessed and saw clearly the power of
truth, though there were too many lies which happen around us every day. However, the truth is the truth even if nobody
believes it. It still exists and stands firmly all the time. To
conclude my writing, I want to borrow a famous sentence of Mahatma Gandhi to
confirm again the value of the power of truth: “Truth
never damages a cause that is just.”
