Marriage & Family
Mt 19, 3 -12
Today, the Gospel tells us about some Pharisees who came to Jesus test
Him. They asked Jesus, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?” Jesus
answered, “What God has joined together, man must not separate”.
Love is a topic that attracts the attention of many people. Whatever
generation or stage in history, love always plays an important role in life. In
the beginning of creation, God created man and woman (Adam & Eve) and they
became one. So, God put love into the beginning of humankind. God did not want
us to live alone. He wanted us to have a happy life and have a companion to
love and help each other. Moreover, in the story of Adam and Eve, God wanted to
express his love and his care to all families. A happy family is a family with
full of happiness and peace. Family is where man and woman are doing the best
thing to each other. It is where they want to come back to in order to have
lunch and dinner after a hard work. It is where they can find peace and safety.
It is where they can put their belief completely to each other.
The question of some Pharisees in the Gospel, “Is it lawful for a man to
divorce his wife for any cause
whatever?” is still a real question in our society today. We know that divorce
is widespread in the world and even legal in many countries. In Vietnam, we
cannot count how many divorces happen every year. There are so many young
people who do not want to get married anymore. There are a lot of couples who do
not want to have children. Others do want to spend more time in the family. For
most people, marriage is not important and necessary.
Moreover, adultery is an extremely serious problem today. Many families are
shattered because of adultery. There are many reasons that lead to this
problem, but the main reason is the lack of love.
Nowadays, many families lack the presence of love, especially the presence
of God’s love. The reasons for this lack of love comes from being too busy with
their study, work and personal enjoinment. Therefore, we ask our loving Lord to
wake up those who are married to be aware of the importance of marriage. We
also ask him to bless and protect all families in the world, especially, those
who are suffering.
